What most people said
- Almost everyone says don't have a car in Dublin: traffic and parking are a nightmare, and the centre is walkable with buses, Luas, DART and tours.
- Pick the car up the day you leave Dublin; most say the airport is easiest, straight onto the M50. City depots have tighter hours, so book automatics early.
- After an overnight flight many advise against driving straight away: take a taxi or bus (multi-seat taxis suit groups) and collect the car later.
- In Killarney most managed without a car (walking, e-bikes, hop-on hop-off bus, taxis); a few would keep it for Muckross House or Ladies View.
What people said
- Definitely wait until you're leaving Dublin to pick up the car. Driving and parking in the city centre is an absolute nightmare, and you really don't need one to see the sights.
- Get the car at the airport on the way out, 25-30 minutes from the city centre by taxi, and head straight out on the M50 which has exits to all other parts of the country.
- No need for a car in Killarney. Avoid the hassle of parking. One can easily walk the town and the park entrance is in town. Plenty of taxis if you need one.
