Fly into Shannon or Dublin?

What most people said

  • For a west-coast trip (Galway, Clare, Kerry), most say fly into Shannon: a quick, easy airport and less driving.
  • Many add that a direct flight into Dublin beats connecting via Heathrow to Shannon; avoid tight Heathrow layovers.
  • For a long loop, several suggest flying into one airport and out of the other to avoid backtracking.
  • Some urge not skipping Dublin entirely: Trinity College, the Book of Kells and EPIC museum get praise.

What people said

  • Shannon, definitely. Hire a car and visit so many wonderful places on the West and South West. Best scenery on this side of the country.
  • Look at which is comparably priced and has the shortest overall transit time. You don't gain anything flying from the US to LHR then on to Shannon if you can get a faster transit going US to Dublin.
  • Fly into one and fly out of the other. In 3-4 weeks you could do the entire Wild Atlantic Way plus coastal route and one motorway stretch to get you back to your departure airport.
