What most people said
- The Aran Sweater Market on Grafton Street is the most named Dublin shop; it can ship home.
- Also suggested in Dublin: Kilkenny Design on Nassau Street, Cleo on Kildare Street (family owned, ethically sourced) and Carrolls for cheaper options.
- Elsewhere: Blarney Woollen Mills near Cork, Avoca at Malahide Castle, the Aran Islands, Doolin and Ardara.
- Many warn most are machine knit and not Irish wool; check labels, consider merino, and wash carefully as they can shrink.
What people said
- Genuine wool sweaters are actually hard to find as hardly any are handknitted. Many of the tourist shops sell jumpers in traditional patterns but that is where it ends.
- Just know that the wool used to make most of the sweaters sold in Ireland is not Irish wool. I would definitely purchase one with 100% Merino wool or Merino blend.
- Avoca in Malahide Castle is a good start. The village has lots of little boutiques littered around its streets too.
