What most people said
- Ashford Castle: most say it's beautiful but very pricey. It's worth it as a splurge if you stay two nights and use the grounds.
- Cheaper ways to see Ashford: stay at the Lodge at Ashford in the grounds, or just go for afternoon tea or a meal.
- Most often recommended: Ballyseede (Kerry), Abbeyglen (Clifden), Kilkea (about an hour from Dublin) and Cabra Castle; also Dromoland, Kilronan and Ballynahinch.
- Castles book up early, so a few suggest calling the castle directly if it shows as full online.
What people said
- Stayed there in May. It was FABULOUS. Definitely a hefty price tag but well worth it for a splurge. If you can afford it, do 2 nights. We only did 1.
- Stay at the lodge, it's in the grounds and it's a fraction of the price. It's gorgeous and has a really cosy feel, and you still have access to the castle!
- Abbeyglen Castle Hotel, Clifden, Co Galway: amazing place. Great rooms, brilliant staff and a lot of fun! Music every night.
